Russia’s Sukhoi Su-35S multirole fighter jet has the “biggest record of downed adversary combat planes among all fourth-generation fighters,” according to Head of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies Ruslan Pukhov.
In comments made to the Russian news agency TASS, Pukhov said that the Su-35 boasts the world’s most extensive modern experience of air combat.
While the exact number of downed enemy aircraft is not known, the Russian media has reported a number of Ukrainian aircraft such as F-16, Su-27 and MiG-29 shot down by Su-35s over the past 4 years.
The Su-35s powerful Al-42F1 engines enable it to out-fly and outmanoeuvre any figher jet in Ukraine’s arsenal.
The onboard radar station combined with a considerable detection range and air-to-air long-range missiles enable the Russian fighter jet to dominate in a modern air combat under the ‘first see, first strike’ concept, he explained.
The target detection and engagement range is crucial for the success of combat operations in the air and the Su-35S is unrivaled in its class in this regard, the military expert said.
The Su-35S fighter is designed to gain air superiority and engage ground and naval targets day and night and in any weather conditions at considerable distances from the aircraft’s airfield.
New batch of Su-35 jets delivered to Russian Aerospace Forces
Last week, The Russian Aerospace Forces received a new batch of the Su-35 fighters, the first for this year, according to Rostec.
The aircraft have proven themselves in service. Pilots note the Su-35S's outstanding performance, which is the most objective assessment of military equipment," said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy Director General of Rostec State Corporation.
“We use this aircraft for intercepting air targets at long range, providing cover for strike groups going after ground targets, destroying unmanned aerial vehicles, and delivering precision strikes against surface targets with precision weapons. We also conduct reconnaissance and uncover enemy positions at significant depths from the line of contact," noted a Su-35S pilot of the Russian Aerospace Forces highlighting the multi-role nature of the Su-35.
