U.S. Approves 1200 JDAM- Extended Range Tail Kit Sale to Ukraine

The U.S. Department of State has approved a Foreign Military Sale to  Ukraine of Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) – Extended Range and related equipment worth $373.6 million.

The JDAM tail kits convert regular bombs into precision -guided munitions launched from aircraft such as Ukraine’s F-16s and Su-27. This will enable Ukraine to conduct targeted strike against Russian ground assets such as airfields, command and control centres and civilian targets such as energy installations.

The Government of Ukraine has requested to buy 1,200 KMU-572 joint direct attack munition (JDAM) tail kits; and 332 KMU-556 JDAM tail kits.

The following non-MDE items will also be included:  FMU-139 fuze systems and JDAM support equipment.
