Air Greenland will take over the Danish Armed Forces' transport and surveillance tasks in Greenland for which two mission-equipped aircraft are being leased while the current Challenger aircraft will be phased out.
The two transport and surveillance aircraft will result in a high degree of availability and mean a strengthened task solution. The aircraft will be equipped with extra fuel tanks and relevant sensor and surveillance systems for use in rescue missions.
"With Air Greenland, a strong supplier has been found to take over the Defence's tasks, including transport and surveillance in Greenland. They have the best conditions to solve the task, as Air Greenland knows both the area and the unique climate that prevails in Greenland. Leasing two aircraft increases the aircraft's availability, which is of crucial importance for solving the task," says Minister of Defence Jeppe Bruus.
"Air Greenland has extensive experience operating under the special and demanding conditions in Greenland. It is therefore gratifying that the Danish Armed Forces are being provided with yet another civilian capacity that can strengthen our task performance in relation to surveillance and rescue tasks in the Arctic and the North Atlantic," says the head of the Arctic Command, Søren Andersen.
The agreement requires approval of the act in the Finance Committee and implies that a total of 1.6 billion DKK will be spent in the period 2028-2037.
