Eurofighter Typhoon arrives in India for MMRCA flight trials

Two Eurofighter Typhoon of the German Air Force arrived safely at the IAF Test Centre (ASTE) in Bengaluru. During the next two weeks, Eurofighter Typhoon will demonstrate its outstanding operational capabilities to the Indian Air Force in the MMRCA Field Evaluation Trials - a key element of India’s acquisition programme for 126 new Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA). Starting in Bengaluru on 22 February, experienced test pilots of the Indian Air Force will examine the Eurofighter Typhoon’s flight performance under specific Indian conditions. Further trials will be conducted in Jaisalmer and Leh, where the aircraft will demonstrate its excellent desert as well as high altitude capabilities. The IAF test pilots have already undergone extensive training in Germany. Both Eurofighter Typhoons are part of Air Squadron 73, which is based at Laage in Northern Germany. Upon completion of this phase of the Field Evaluation Trials on 5 March, the aircraft will return to their home base. There, the Indian Air Force will test the aircraft’s cutting edge weapons systems and advanced sensors. Exercises will include dropping precision guided munitions and launching air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.
