Sirkosky Aircraft has struck deals with two Asian countries to supply helicopters for search and rescue and other duties, the aircraft-maker announced at the Singapore air show on Feb 14. South Korea's Coast Guard signed with Sirkosky to deliver one S-92 in 2013 as part of the country’s Multi-purpose Helicopter Program. The current deal could be expanded to include three additional machines allowing South Korea to independently undertake search and rescue programs, maritime security, emergency medical services and transport of personnel. Sikorsky will also supply four SS-76D helicopters to Japan to replace a number of machines damaged in the tsunami of 2011. First delivery is planned for later this year.
