The Russian Armed Forces will begin inducting indigenously developed strike unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by the end of 2014. The new drone will be able to carry several types of equipment and armament due to its modular structure. Flight tests are expected to begin in early 2014 by Tranzas company based in St.Petersburg. The weapons load of the drone is unclear but the aircraft will weigh about a ton. Just recently President Vladimir Putin said that Russia must develop a range of military UAVs, including strike and reconnaissance types as soon as possible. In the next eight years, Russia will spend around $13 billion developing UAVs.
