Indonesia To Get Three New Submarine From S. Korea

Indonesia announced on Tuesday that its Defense Ministry has placed an order for three new submarines from a South Korean dockyard under the transfer of Technology (TOT) scheme. The contract whose value is unknown has already been signed and the product is expected to be delivered by 2015. Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, said, “There will be transition phase in the production process where Indonesia wants to build one in an Indonesian dockyard". Under the TOT scheme, one submarine will be built in South Korea, another jointlyproduced by Indonesian and S. Korean engineers and third will be built in Indonesia. The submarines are expected to improve the operation and country’s navy feet.
