The Indian Minister of Defense AK Antony informed the parliament on Monday that the Air Force will receive 75 Basic Trainer Aircraft from Pilatus between 2013 and 2015. According to the terms of the $500 million contract signed in May 2012, Pilatus will begin delivery of the aircraft and the complete training system in the fourth quarter this year. The new aircraft will replace the IAF’s fleet of HPT-32 basic trainer aircraft which were grounded in 2009 due to safety concerns. Pilatus will also work with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on a transfer of technology for the maintenance of the aircraft over the next 30 years. "Pilatus has also entered into a separate off-set contract with the Government of India for 30 per cent of the value of this contract and we view this as a major opportunity," the company said in a statement.
