Despite huge military cuts, the U.S plans the costliest modernisation and maintenance of over 5000 nuclear warheads worth $352 billion. The project includes replacing 12 aging Ohio-class submarines worth $110 billion while the Minuteman III ballistic missiles will cost $7 billion. And one B61bomb upgrading cost $10 billion over the next five years. The U.S also plans to replace the old delivery systems and will renovate the aging nuclear facilities. The total cost of the project is yet to be decided and the cost might increase with delays in the project. A nuclear-capable fleet of F-35 strike aircraft is being built to replace existing aircraft at a cost of $162 million an airplane. Modernising the buildings and laboratories where the refurbishments will take place is expected to cost at least $88 billion over 10 years.
