Belarus will begin inducting modern Russian-made combat jets to protect the airspace over the Russia-Belarus Union State borders. Alexander Lukashenko, Belarusian President, said, “We discussed many issues related to the Air Force. I asked for assistance and I got it. In the near future, we will receive modern Russian aircraft to patrol our joint borders”. “We can use them in time of war but in time of peace we need new normal aircraft. We have reached a relevant agreement. The President of Russia and I agreed to secure our border properly” he added. The type of the warplanes and the number is yet to be disclosed. The combat jets in service with the Belarusian Air Force are out dated and worn out.
The Belarusian Air Force has 38 Soviet-era MiG-29 and 17 Su-27 fighter jets capable of carrying out air patrol missions.
