The US government last week brought back the dreaded anti-personnel mines- the dreaded relics of past wars that have killed and maimed tens of thousands, decades after wars have ended.
Welcome to the new era of self-destruct mines
The United States has allowed it military to deploy self-destruct landmines in conflict zones such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria reversing an Obama-era policy prohibiting the US from using land mines outside of the Korean Peninsula.
The US DoD explained the rationale behind the move, “Landmines, including anti-personnel landmines (APL), remain a vital tool in conventional warfare.
