India To Export Defense Equipment To Vietnam, Indonesia And Venezuela

India plans to export defense equipments and armaments built indigenously to other friendly countries,  according to local media reports. 

The BrahMos missiles might become the first to be exported to Southeast Asia and South American countries while Vietnam, Indonesia and Venezuela have expressed willingness to procure the missile. 

The Indo-Russian agreement for joint production of BrahMos missile stipulates it may only be inducted in Indian and Russian armed forces and can be exported to friendly countries.

India hopes to sign an agreement with Vietnam during President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit from September 14-17.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier indicated of developing defense equipments indigenously and aimed at exports to friendly nations.

India could also export indigenously developed 'Tejas' - Light Combat Aircraft, 'Akash' - air defence system and 'Prahar' class of missiles to friendly countries. Tejas is a lightweight, multi-role, single-engine tactical fighter aircraft.

Akash, a surface-to-air missile, has a range of 25 km. Prahar is a 150 km-range tactical missile system. Several countries have shown interest in the Akash missile system, which was ready to be inducted into the Army. LCA is likely to be ready for induction into IAF by the end of this year after attaining the final operational clearance, the report said.
