Two Korean-made KT-1 Woongbi planes from an Indonesian Jupiter aerobatics team have collided and crashed during a practice session before a LIMA air show, local media reported Sunday.

The KT–1B Wongbi were among six aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force carrying out a practice run. They were said to have grazed each other before crashing.

The KAI KT-1 Woongbi, a single-engined turboprop, is a basic training aircraft. It was jointly developed by KAI and the Agency for Defence Development (ADD). The KT-1 is the first indigenous Korean aircraft ever developed and the KT-1B is export version for Indonesia.

The pilots from both planes ejected after the jets went out of control and landed safely with their parachutes, a Malaysian defense official was quoted as saying on Sunday.

The Indonesian team is one of five scheduled to perform at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition, set for March 17-21.
