Lebanon Receives $3 Billion Saudi Aided French Weapons

Lebanon has received the first shipment of a mix of French land, sea and air equipment including armored vehicles, heavy artillery, anti-tank missiles, and mortar and assault weapons worth $3 billion on Monday, Reuters reported.

The Saudi-funded deal to provide Lebanon with French weapons is underway as the first shipment arrived at the Beirut International airport.

Saudi Arablia has already provided $1 billion in military aid to Lebanese army in their fight against militants encroaching from neighboring Syria. The deal was signed last November and involves 20 French companies, Reuters said.

The arrival of the first shipment was broadcast on Lebanese news channels, showing a military plane at Beirut International airport with green boxes of weapons and missiles laid out in front.

The ceremony was attended by French and Lebanese ministers of defense as Saudi and French flags waved.

The first shipment was 48 ‘Milan anti-tank missiles, Reuters quoted an unnamed security source from Lebanon as saying.
