Turkish Undersecretary for Defence Industries (SSM) has awarded a contract of 52 Super Mushshak trainers to Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) during the second day of IDEF 2017.
Letter of Intent (LoI) with Turkey for the sale of this aircraft was signed during IDEAS 2016, in the presence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
This is one of the three contracts finalized between Turkey and Pakistan on May 10. A letter-of-intent (LoI) for the sale of four MILGEM corvettes for the Pakistan Navy and a LoI for fresh collaboration between PAC and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) was also signed on Wednesday.
Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer said "with the signing of these three documents, the level of Pakistan-Turkey defence industry collaboration would be further intensified and enhanced”.
He added that the defence industries of Pakistan and Turkey had significant capacities and capabilities and closer mutual collaboration between the two would help them realise the full potential in an optimal manner.
The Super Mushshak is an upgraded variant of the Saab MFI-17 Supporter, which Pakistan began ordering in 1974. Pakistan procured 92 MFI-17s in the form of semi and complete knock-down kits (SKD and CKD).
