A trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on Thursday after getting airborne from Air Force Station Hakimpet in Hyderabad.

The HJT-16 Kiran trainer aircraft was on a routine training mission with a trainee when the incident happened. The pilot of the aircraft managed to eject safely before the plane came down in a field.

"The pilot is safe and a court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident," the Air Force said in a statement. The aircraft was completely damaged after the crash. The Kiran is a trainer aircraft being used by the force for years. The pilot was on a training sortie and was flying alone.
