Russia's Strategic Nuclear Forces launched three intercontinental ballistic missilesfrom "land, air and sea" as part of its strategic nuclear programme, the Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

A "Topol" intercontinental ballistic missile was fired from the Plesetsk testing ground in the northwest of the country and three ballistic missiles were launched by two nuclear missile submarines (SSBNs), two from the Okhotsk Sea, north of Japan, and one from the Barents Sea, in the Arctic Ocean.

“Units of Strategic Missile Forces control centres, crews of nuclear missile submarines of the Northern and Pacific Fleets as well as long-range strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out training missions,” the statement says.

Strategic Bombers Tu-160, Tu-95MS, and Tu-22M3 were also part of the training exercise, which fired cruise missiles at ground targets located at the Kura (Kamchatka), Pemboy (Komi), and Terekta (Kazakhstan).

"All the tasks set for the exercise have been fulfilled and all the practice targets were reached," the ministry said.
