India has offered to set up defence equipment factories in Vietnam and to export the products to third countries, according to reports of meetings Indian defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman had with industry bodies in Vietnam last week.

Vietnam would become a prime destination for Indian businesses, especially in defense and military sectors, Sitharaman was quoted as saying by VN Express last Thursday.

The minister had earlier opened a representative office of India's Bharat Electronics Limited, a company which manufactures defence electronics, including radars and parts for missiles and other weapons and systems.

Vietnam had expressed interest in acquiring Brahmos missiles from India and both sides have been engaged in talks over it.
