The US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has awarded a contract to Insitu Inc. for its mid-endurance unmanned aircraft systems (MEUAS III) programme, the Department of defense announced Wednesday.
Under “a $5,000 minimum, $232,000,000 maximum additional task order”, the contractor will provide “mid-endurance unmanned aircraft systems (MEUAS II-B) intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance services”, the statement says.
This task order was issued to prevent interruption of ongoing services. Fiscal 2018 operations and maintenance funds in the amount of $12,000,000 were obligated at the time of award, it added.
MEUAS is a fee-for-service or "power by the hour" contractor-owned and operated UAV network deployed in support of SOCOM operations. It uses catapult-launched mid-sized UAVs to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance information to special forces on the ground.
