The Pakistan Navy Commissioned PNS MOAWIN, an indigenously constructed 17,000 ton combat support ship which is the largest warship ever built in Pakistan.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, President of Turkish Defence Industry Prof Dr Ismael DEMIR and Turkish Deputy Minister of National Defence Muhsin Dere were also present on the occasion at the Naval Shipyard in Karachi Tuesday, local media reported quoting an official release.

The Naval ship was built in collaboration with the Turkish shipbuilding firm, STM.

“Commissioning of this ship would provide Pak Navy, greater flexibility for prolonged operations at sea and also contribute effectively in vital humanitarian assistance operations, whenever and wherever required,” the President Dr Arif Alvi said in a speech on the occasion.

Dr Alvi also commended the dedicated workers, engineers and technicians of Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works and M/s STM (Savunma Teknoloji Muhendislik ve Ticrate) for their professionalism and dedication.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi said the Pakistan Navy was striving to achieve self-sufficiency in the field of building combat warships.

PNS MOAWIN can perform multi-dimensional maritime operations, including supply of fuel and supplies to other Pak Navy operating vessels, besides featuring a flight deck to accommodate two helicopters. The vessel has a medical facility as well.
