Gulf Nation Buys Chinese Combat Drone After Israel Turns Down Request

A Persian Gulf nation has purchased Chinese Chengdu Pterodactyl 1, also known as Wing Loong, after its request to buy Israeli Hermes Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) was turned down by Tel Aviv.

According to reports, Israel chose to turn down the request after careful consideration.

The unnamed Gulf nation made the request to acquire Elbit Hermes 450 drones. The country was not identified in the report due to military censorship, PressTV reported Monday.

The Persian Gulf kingdom then purchased Chinese Chengdu Pterodactyl I, the news daily reported. The news daily did not name the country.

The Elbit Hermes 450 is an Israeli medium size multi-payload Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed for tactical long endurance missions. It has an endurance of over 20 hours, with a primary mission of reconnaissance, surveillance and communications relay.

The Chengdu Pterodactyl I is a Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE)  drone used for surveillance and aerial reconnaissance. It is capable of being fitted with air-to-surface weapons for use in an UCAV role.
