Putin, Erdogan Address Gathering Jointly At MAKS 2019

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed gathering together at MAKS 2019 air show today in Moscow.

Earlier, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov had said that Russia would showcase Su-57 stealth jet to the Turkish leader.  "We'll show (Erdogan) the Su-57 and the Su-35,"  Borisov was quoted as saying by Russian media.

According to Borisov, “prospects of the fighter sales to Turkey depend on the show.”

The leaders are also likely to examine the Su-35 fighter.

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had said that the country will demonstrate the export versions of the fifth-generation Su-57.

The meeting coincides with the deliveries of second batch of Russian S-400 air defense systems to Turkey on August 27. The S-400 has been the bone of contention between Turkey and the US, with the latter having tried to persuade Ankara to ditch the Russian systems for American Patriot missile defense system.

After the deliveries of the $2.5 billion worth S-400s began this July, Washington expelled Turkey from the F-35 program.
