China showcased a peculiar flying vehicle- the “Hunting Eagle" military gyrocopter, at the National Day parade on October 1 in Beijing.

Developed by Shaanxi Baoji Special Vehicles company, the “weirdest” hardware on display at the event is smaller, cheaper and requires narrower space to land than a conventional helicopter. The autogyro is, however slow, does not have vertical take-off capability and requires skilled pilots to fly, Vietnam-based Soha reported on Wednesday.

A gyrocopter is a type of rotorcraft which uses an unpowered rotor in autorotation to develop lift, and an engine-powered propeller, similar to that of a fixed-wing aircraft, to provide thrust.

The Hunting Eagle can be used in search and rescue missions, border control, surveillance, aerial reconnaissance missions and Special Forces Operations for deploying soldiers behind enemy line.
