Egyptian Navy’s Last French Gowind Corvette Launched

Naval Group has announced the launching of fourth and final Gowind 2500 corvette for the Egyptian Navy.

“The launching of the Luxor, the 4th Gowind corvette shows the impressive capabilities of Alexandria shipyard,” the company tweeted on May 15.

Gowind 2500 corvettes have a single mast offering 360° surveillance capability. The 102m Gowind 2500 has a displacement of 2,600 tons. It is armed with a SETIS combat system, Panoramic Sensors and Intelligence Module. They can accommodate a 11ton helicopter and UAS on helicopter deck.

Egyptian Navy’s Last French Gowind Corvette Launched

The vessel will carry a crew of 80 personnel including helicopter detachment, has a maximum speed of 25 knots and a range of 3,700 nautical miles at 15 knots.

The Gowind 2500 corvettes are among several big-ticket items Egypt purchased from France, which also include two Mistral landing helicopter docks (LHD), a DCNS FREMM multi-mission frigate, and 24 Dassault Rafale multi-role fighters.
