Indian Army today reported progress in disengagement with the Chinese military describing the process as “intricate and requires constant verification.”

The Indian MoD said in a statement that senior army commanders from India and China have reviewed the progress on implementation of the first phase of disengagement along the LAC and discussed further steps to ensure complete disengagement.

The LAC - line of actual control - is the unofficial border between India and China.

India and China have been engaged in discussions through established military and diplomatic channels to address the prevailing situation along the LAC, the statement said.

Commanders from PLA & Indian Army held a meeting at Chushul, on Indian side, for the fourth round of talks, on 14 July 2020, it said.

“The engagement was consistent with the consensus reached between the Special Representatives of India and China earlier, on 05 July, to discuss complete disengagement. They are taking it forward through regular meetings at diplomatic and military level,” the statement said.

Relations between India and China reached a flashpoint in June when 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a unarmed engagement with a numerically superior force of Chinese PLA soldiers in the Galwan valley of Ladakh region.  Both sides have since commenced talks to de-escalate the situation while bolstering their military presence in the border region.
