BrahMos Anti-Ship Missile Hits Target at Max Range
Indian Navy's INS Ranvijay destroyer fires BrahMos missile.

India’s BrahMos anti-ship missile today launched from a warship hit its target located nearly 290km away.

“Indian Navy hones its combat readiness. BrahMos AShM launched by INS Ranvijay destroyer strikes target ship at max range with pinpoint accuracy in Bay of Bengal,” the Navy announced today.

INS Ranvijay is a Rajput-class destroyer armed with one stern mounted 8-cell Brahmos VLS launcher. The missile has a top speed of Mach 2.8, a very low-cruise altitude of 10 meters at terminal phase and impeccable accuracy.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land platforms. It is the world`s fastest operational system in its class.

The Army test-fired the surface-to-surface variant with a speed of Mach 2.8 on November 24. Tests of the land attack variant whose range was extended to 400km from the original 290km was reportedly held last week.
