Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC) will set up an overhaul center in India for VK-2500 engines that are equipped on the Mi-17V5 helicopters in use by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

“UEC will locate its service center in India. The VK-2500 engines for Mi-17V5 helicopters will be overhauled there,” state-run Rostec said today.

The IAF inaugurated the facility in Chandigarh city in April 2019. First of the engines will be serviced in India this year. The facility will be fully certified in 2022.

“After the reconstruction of the test bench, the Klimovites can produce up to 250 helicopter engines per year - this is the only manufacturer of such products in Russia,” the company added.

Mi-17V5 is a transport version of the Mi-8 helicopter.

In 2008, Rosoboronexport signed a contract for the delivery of 80 Mi-17V-5 to India, which was completed in 2011-2013. In 2012-2013, three additional supplies had been signed to supply a total of 71 Mi-17V-5 helicopters. Deliveries of the aircraft were completed in July 2018.
