Russia Enters into a Military Cooperation Agreement with the Republic of Congo

Russian warships will be able to enter The Republic of Congo, and planes can land on the territory of that country as per an agreement between the two countries.

An intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation signed on October 24, 2019, entered into force on April 15, 2021. The text of the agreement was published on Thursday on the official Russian government portal of legal information, Interfax reported.

The agreementprovides for official visits of delegations, participation in military exercises, meetings of military experts, education and training of military personnel, as well as visits of warships and visits by military aircraft.

According to the document, Russia and the Congo will exchange information on defense issues, develop relations in the field of joint training of troops, exchange experience in the field of peacekeeping activities and interact in measures to combat terrorism and piracy.

In May 2019, Russia and Congo agreed to send Russian military specialists to this country to help the local industry repair and service the large number of Soviet-made military and special equipment.
