Russia Controls Ukrainian Airspace, Zelenskyy Announces International Legion

Russian troops have established control over Ukrainian airspace by destroying S-300 air defense systems, bombing military airfields and taking over control towers.

In addition, the area around Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, located in Enerhodar region too has been seized in operations over the last 24 hours.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said at a briefing Monday that the radiation background near the nuclear power plant is within the normal range.

In another development, Ukraine's President Zelenskyy has reportedly announced the creation of an "International Legion," consisting of foreign volunteers who wish to fight on the side of Ukraine, Ukraine’s MoD tweeted. However, this tweet could not be officially confirmed.

President Zelenskyy announced creation of a new unit named ‘International Legion.’ We already have thousands requests from foreigners, who want to join the resistance to the occupiers and protect the world security from Putin regime,” said Hanna Maliar - Deputy Minister of Defence.

According to General Konashenkov, the Russian Aerospace Forces have gained air supremacy over the entire territory of Ukraine. On Sunday, 8 Buk-M1 air defense systems were destroyed along with guidance stations, including the S-300 radar. Also, 4 aircraft were destroyed at airfields and one aircraft in the air.

Several images emerged on social media of Russian Su-34 bombers flying over Kyiv unchallenged by Ukrainian air defense leading credence to the Russian MoD claim that it controls Ukraine's airspace.
