Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to ease the ongoing tensions.
"Now about the negotiations with the Russian Federation. Representatives of our countries’ delegations speak in video format every day. Our delegation has a clear task - to do everything to ensure a meeting of the presidents. The meeting that I am sure people are waiting for," Zelenskyy said in a video address on March 14.
He noted that the meeting is a “difficult but necessary path.”
Zelenskyy warned NATO that its member states could soon be attacked by Russian forces after the air strike on a Ukrainian military base near the Polish border.
Diplomatic efforts to end the war stepped up on Monday, with negotiators from both sides set to talk again. Fourth round of peace talks via video conference between Russia and Ukrainian officials will take place at 10.30 Kyiv time.
