The Russian Ministry of Defense posted videos of Bastion coastal missile system and one of its warships firing multiple Kalibr cruise missiles to destroy Ukrainian military infrastructure.
The is the first time the ministry shared such videos. While one video shows a missile ship at sea successively launching 8 Kalibr missiles, another shows three more launched from a K-300P Bastion against ground targets. The video, purportedly taken in occupied Crimea, appears to be the first visual evidence of it in action during this conflict and shows three missiles being launched in quick succession.
On March 19, MoD spokesman claimed that a Bastion system was used to “destroy a radio and reconnaissance center of the Ukrainian forces in the Odesa Region,” suggesting that Bastion has been used against ground targets in the country at least twice.
The Kalibr missiles were used during Russia’s operation in Syria 13 times. According to the MoD, at least 99 missiles were fired against hostile targets.
Designed by Novator, the 3M-14 Kalibr subsonic missile has a claimed maximum range of 2000km. A special Kalibr-NK configuration of the missile was created for surface ships.
