Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that Moscow is hoping that the special military operation in Ukraine could be ended in the foreseeable future.
“We are talking about the foreseeable future,” Peskov told reporters when asked if the war would end in a matter of days.
“The operation will reach its goals or end in talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegation in the next few days, in the foreseeable future,” the official was quoted as saying by British television channel Sky News.
Speaking about the grounds for making these forecasts, Peskov said, "The operation continues and the goals are being achieved."
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ukraine is ready to agree to four of Russia's six demands. Kyiv will abandon its desire to get a NATO membership, recognize Russian as official language, ‘demilitarize’ to some extent and work towards collective security. Erdogan added that Ukraine does not discuss the fifth and sixth points of the demands of the Russians, namely the recognition of the Russian occupation of the Crimea and the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
"Substantive work is being carried out both on the military side, in terms of advancing the operation, and on the side of the negotiators who are in the negotiation process with their Ukrainian counterparts," Peskov added.
