A 'new type' of remote weapons station (RWS) was recently tested by the Chinese PLA's Xinjiang Military Command.
The RWS, mounted on an armored vehicles can annihilate light armored force or foot soldiers' force. A shooter manipulates the fire control system from inside the vehicle, a video report in the PLA's official news website, Chinamil.com reported.
The armored vehicle mounted RWS looks similar to the DongFeng vehicle-fitted 30mm remotely-operated cannon displayed at the 2021 Zhuhai Air Show. The system comprises of one 30mm 2A4 automatic cannon and one 7.62mm PKTM coaxial machine gun.
A description in the PLA video said that the RWS firing took place as part of a combined arms training in the Karakoram Plateau region. The troops fired at a stationary target from varying distances.
Compared with the previous generation RWS, the new type of weapon remote control station uses an integrated design to make it more convenient; and this generation of weapon remote control station uses joystick operation and LCD screen display.
The RWS is made by China North Industries Co (NORINCO).
