The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, informed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley that Ukraine needs more 155mm artillery guns to fight off Russia.
Taking to Telegram June 12, Zaluzhny said the fighting is the fiercest in the north part of Luhansk and in Donetsk’s Sievierodonetsk city. “They (Russian forces) use artillery en masse and, unfortunately, they have a tenfold fire advantage. Despite everything, we keep holding our positions,” he wrote.
“The situation is complicated, in particular, in the city of Sievierodonetsk. Up to seven battalion tactical groups were deployed by the enemy there. Despite the heavy fire, we managed to stop the enemy," the official added.
Zaluzhny claimed Russia has begun shelling residential areas in Kharkiv after it failed to advance in Lunhansk. The Russian military continue to fire artillery and mortars at Ukrainian defense forces in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions.
Zaluzhny says the front line currently stretches 2,450km, with active hostilities taking place along a 1,105km front line.
