Additional protection kits for infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and armored personnel carriers (APCs) have been sent to Russian Forces fighting in Ukraine.
In an article published on Friday in the departmental newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda, the head of the Main Armored Directorate in the Russian MoD, Major General Alexander Shestakov wrote, "additional protection kits for the BMP-3, BMP-2, BTR-82A, BTR-80 have been created and the supply of these kits to the troops, primarily to the areas of the special military operation, has been ensured."
He stated that the tank and motorized rifle units and formations taking part in the special operation in Ukraine are provided with modern models of armored weapons and equipment.
"The T-90M, T-80BVM, T-72B3M tanks currently produced by the industry, infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3, BMP-2M, airborne combat vehicles BMD-4M in terms of basic performance characteristics are not inferior to foreign counterparts, and in some surpass them," Shestakov said.
Russian armored vehicles in Ukraine are facing the heat from Western-supplied anti-tank weapons and long range artillery rockets.
In a related development, the Uralvagonzavod Concern announced that it has sent a batch of new T-90M tanks to the Russian army.
“On the eve of the Day of the tanker, Uralvagonzavod employees sent another echelon of special equipment to the Russian Ministry of Defense. These are the latest T-90M Proryv tanks and BREM-1M engineering vehicles,” a press release from Uralvagonzavod Concern said.
The T-90M is the latest modification of the Russian T-90 main battle tank.
