Raytheon has been awarded a $9,034,161 contract for Range Extension under the Taiwan Surveillance Radar Program (SRP).

The SRP is an all-seeing eye that can detect and track ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and stealth fighters entering Taiwan's air defense identification zone.

This contract provides modifications to the system to enhance the SRP sensor range. Work will be performed in Taiwan and is expected to be completed by Sept. 26, 2024. This contract involves Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to Taiwan, according to a Pentagon contract announcement.

An earlier US government RFP issued August 6 had said, "The USG under its Building Partner Capacity program has requested that the Taiwan Surveillance Programs Early Warning Radar (EWR) range be extended to be in line with radars of the same class. This will be a modification of the current software."

Taiwan acquired the radar system in 2013 to track Chinese aircraft. Media reports say the radar can provide upto six minutes of early warning for enemy aircraft and missiles entering its radar zone.
While its range has not been officially disclosed, reports say that the SRP creates a 240-degree virtual eye, allowing Taiwan to see deep into China, North Korea and parts of the South China Sea.
