The Ukrainian Army exhibited captured Russian Military hardware such as tanks and armored vehicles in Kyiv last week most of which had little or no damage suggesting that they may have been abandoned by fleeing Russian soldiers.
Some of the equipment is the latest generation Russian hardware such as the T-90M 'Breakthrough' tank and the 'top secret' 1V1003 command and observation vehicle that controls several Tornado-G multiple launch rocket systems besides electronic warfare equipment. Their falling into Ukrainian hands will allow its Western backers to learn of their technical features.
The Ukrainian Army claims that it "picked up" 45 tanks, 14 self-propelled guns, 32 BMP-2 and 15 BTR-82A were only near Izyum. On 10 September 2022 Ukrainian forces recaptured the town located in Kharkiv Oblast which was under Russian control since April.
Retreating Russian troops are said to be abandoning equipment worth millions of dollars which the Ukrainians are gleefully accepting, a critical report in a pro-Russian media, topcor.ru said.
The Ukrainian media sarcastically call this leaving of high tech equipment to Ukrainian hands as "lend lease" referring to the American program under which accelerated deliveries are promised under liberal credit terms.
The number of abandoned military equipment pieces has increased ever since Russian forces started retreating from a number of previously-held positions, the publication says adding that everything points to a hasty retreat or flight.
Quoting Lieutenant Colonel Kuznetsov, a military expert, it says,"retreat is a coordinated action when the withdrawal is carried out to prepared positions and under the cover of artillery and aviation. Everything else is called flight."
The expert suggested that the tanks can be blown up using grenades which are part of the tank crew's equipment with 10 pieces being sufficient to destroy a tank.
The tanks and APCs can be set on fire using their using their own fuel or their vital system can be disabled.
Another way is to note down the coordinates of a cluster of abandoned equipment and strike there with artillery or missiles.
