Belarus has confirmed the deployment of Russia-produced S-400 Triumf and Iskander missile systems.
“Special thanks, and not only from me, but also the military, for keeping your promise. The S-400 complex, which you handed over to Belarus, and the Iskander complex, which you promised half a year ago, handed over to us," President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Minsk on Monday.
On February 17, Lukashenka was quoted as saying by Belarusian state agency BelTA that the S-400 systems could be deployed near Minsk. He added that Belarus plans to buy or receive Iskander-M operational-tactical missile systems as a gift from Russia.
In an interview with the Russian National Defense magazine in November 2021, Lukashenka said Belarus needed several Iskander divisions.
"I need several divisions in western and southern directions…. Our Polonaise (Belarusian MLRS) has a range up to 300km… I need these (Iskander-M systems) with 500km range here," Lukashenka said at the time.
