A helicopter crashed near a nursery outside the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, killing Ukrainian interior minister Denys Monastyrskyy, two other top officials, and at least three children.
The preliminary reports suggested that the helicopter involved in the crash was a Eurocopter EC225 Super Puma. The aircraft was reportedly flying in foggy weather which led to the accident.
The region’s Governor said 16 people died in the disaster. Deceased include Monastyrskyi's deputy Yevhen Yenin and State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yurii Lubkovych.
The town of Brovary, where the ill-fated rotorcraft hit the ground, is located some 20km northeast of Kyiv. Russian and Ukrainian forces fought for control of the town in the early stages of Moscow’s invasion until Russia’s troops withdrew in early April.
