U.A.E.’s state-owned conglomerate EDGE Group appears to be just inches away from clinching another contract for its loitering munitions, this time from Serbia.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced on Feb. 21, the day he visited the IDEX 2023 exhibition in Abu Dhabi that the country would buy U.A.E.-made drones within two days.
“We are running in a race for drones and anti-drone weapons. (They shouldn’t be) too expensive, and drones are getting cheaper and are produced in ever-growing quantities... Within 48 hours, we will sign the first contract with the U.A.E. for the purchase of their drones, and they will arrive at the territory of the Republic of Serbia very soon,” Vučić confirmed in an official statement. “When I say that those drones will become part of the Serbian Armed Forces’ armament, it means that we are nearing the end of all procedures.”
He didn’t identify the type of drones Serbia would buy, or reveal how many units the country would buy.
Companies owned by EDGE have won multiple contracts to deliver different types of weapons, including loitering munitions and precision guided munitions, at the IDEX exhibition currently taking place in Abu Dhabi.
