Iskander Missile Strike Caused Massive Explosion in Ukraine Ammunition Depot

A strike by an Iskander missile caused a massive fire in an ammunition depot in Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine on Saturday.

The ammunition depot was seen in flames with periodic loud explosions throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Amateur video taken from Khmelnytskyi show a projectile hurtling through the sky towards the depot and seconds later there is a loud blast with flames rising several hundred feet in the sky.

Unofficial reports have put the value of the Western weapons and ammunition stored there between $500 million to $2.2 billion. There is no official confirmation of the strike from the Ukrainian side.

The Russian MoD today released a video of the launch of an Iskander missile from its mobile, camouflaged vehicle.

“Iskander tactical missile system destroyed the enemy ammunition depot…. The location of the target was identified by the reconnaissance. After receiving the coordinates, the crews were tasked to destroy the target. The crew moved to the firing position, deployed the system and launched the missile. After completing the task, the servicemen changed the positions,” the ministry said in a release.

While not naming the Khmelnytskyi ammo depot as the target, the release of the video, a day after the one of the most successful military target hit by the Russians, is significant.
