Russia Claims Destroying Ukrainian Navy's Last Warship
Ukrainian Navy’s last warship "Yury Olefirenko" has been destroyed, Russia has claimed.
Igor Konashenkov, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, told reporters during a press briefing on Wednesday that the landing ship Yuri Olefirenko was struck by “high-precision” Russian Aerospace Forces weaponry in the Black Sea port of Odessa on May 29.
Ukraine’s navy has declined to comment. On Monday, Ukraine’s military said that heavy air strikes had ignited a fire and damaged infrastructure at the port of Odessa, which is a key grain export hub in addition to its naval base.
The Yuri Olefirenko is a medium-sized landing ship for troops and vehicles.
