Germany has taken delivery of Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns meant for Ukraine.

The guns are located at Germany’s Putlos training ground where Ukrainian troops are undergoing training.

“Soon they will be protecting the cities of Ukraine from Russian attacks,” Oleksiy Makeyev, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, shared on social media.

A Middle Eastern country may have handed over these guns, featuring distinctive sand camouflage, to Germany.

Ukraine has so far received 40 Gepard systems.

Ukrainian media claim the Gepard to be effective against Iranian-made Shahed-136 loitering munitions, but ineffective against the enemy’s ballistic missiles, as they can fight targets at ranges 4-5km.

Gepard uses Swiss-made 35mm ammunition. Switzerland’s strict policy of neutrality does not allow it to supply weapons to warring countries, so Kyiv may face shortages in the future.

The first deliveries of ammunition for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns from Rheinmetall will take place in September-October this year.
