Russian military sunk Ukrainian Navy’s “Ternophil” corvette it captured during its annexation of Crimea in 2014.
This sinking operation was part of the military’s ongoing exercises in the Black Sea, a video of which was published by the Russian defense ministry.
Russian missile boat "Ivanovets" fired an anti-ship cruise missile to hit the Ukrainian Project 1124M corvette. The missile has a penetrating warhead weighing 300kg, of which 150kg is occupied by explosives.
Ivanovets hit the middle part of the ship above the waterline and detonated. The Russians did not show the final results of a direct missile hit, but the ship probably sank.
Ukrainian Navy’s U209 "Ternopil" had a displacement of 930 tons. It was armed with one 76-mm AK-176 gun mount, two paired 533-mm torpedo tubes and a RBU-6000 Smerch-2 rocket launcher.
The ship was also equipped with a 30-mm AK-630M automatic cannon and the Osa-MA anti-aircraft missile system. In addition, the crew was armed with several Strela-3 MANPADS.
