U.A.E., China to Conduct First-ever Air Force Exercise

China and the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) will hold their inaugural joint air force training, called "Falcon Shield-2023" in Xinjiang, China, later this month.

This training in China aims to exchange expertise and enhance the combat efficiency of personnel in both friendly countries, the U.A.E.  Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Specific details regarding the size of the U.A.E. contingent, the duration of the training, and its scope have not been disclosed.

The Falcon Shield-2023 joint exercise is seen as an indication of a strengthening relationship between the two countries in terms of military cooperation and aviation technology exchange.

The exercise follows China’s export of twelve L15 (JL-1) advanced trainer jets, complete with aerial refueling capabilities, to the U.A.E. for an undisclosed sum. This contract also includes an option to purchase 36 additional aircraft.

Abu Dhabi has earlier procured Chinese Wing Loong combat drones.
