Australia has received U.S.’ nod to procure M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and related equipment for $975 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.
Australia wants to buy 22 HIMARS systems produced by Lockheed Martin, along with 60 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems and other munitions, the State Department said on Friday.
The U.S. and Australia have forged closer military ties in recent years. In July, the U.S. said it would expand its military footprint in Australia over coming years, including more frequent and longer visits of US submarines and collaboration on guided missile production.
