The Russian Ministry of Defense has released a video showcasing the destruction of a Ukrainian Krab self-propelled artillery installation in a special military operation zone.

The attack was executed by Russian troops using a Krasnopol high-precision projectile.

The self-propelled artillery unit, identified as a Polish-made AHS Krab 155-mm self-propelled tracked howitzer, is one of 18 units donated by the Polish government to assist Ukraine in its defense efforts against the Russian invasion. It incorporated components from the PT-91 Twardy main battle tank and featured a turret based on the British AS-90M Braveheart self-propelled artillery vehicle, utilizing the barrel of the French-based Nexter gun system.

Weighing a substantial 48 tons when fully loaded with fuel and ammunition, the Krab boasts a maximum speed of 67 kilometers per hour and an average road speed of up to 30 kilometers per hour. The estimated operational range of this formidable weapon is approximately 400 kilometers.

The Krab self-propelled artillery unit requires a crew of five, including the driver, vehicle commander, gunner, and two ammunition handlers. It can store up to 60 rounds of 155-mm ammunition throughout its turret and hull, which can be fired from its 155-mm, 52-caliber main gun barrel designed to accommodate various NATO-compatible projectiles. The Krab has a sustained rate of fire of approximately 18 rounds in three minutes, with a maximum firing range just under 30 kilometers. With assisted projectiles, it can reach a range of up to 40 kilometers.

Krasnopol

The Krasnopol high-precision projectile is a guided artillery munition typically used with 152-mm and 155-mm artillery systems. Employing precision guidance systems like GPS, laser, or inertial technology, these projectiles achieve extended ranges, often exceeding 20 kilometers, and are recognized for their remarkable precision in hitting targets. Krasnopol munitions come with various warhead options, including high-explosive, anti-tank, or specialized warheads tailored for specific missions, making them versatile for engaging a wide array of targets such as armored vehicles, fortifications, and high-value military assets. Keep in mind that specifications may have evolved since my last update in September 2021, so it's advisable to consult official sources or the manufacturer for the latest information on this high-precision artillery munition.
