The Ukrainian government has awarded Rheinmetall a contract for Leopard 1 systems, comprising 25 main battle tanks (Leopard 1A5), five armored recovery vehicles (Bergepanzer 2), and two driver training tanks.
The contract, financed by Germany and valued in the upper-two-digit million-euro range, includes training, logistics, spare parts, maintenance, and other support services.
Delivery is scheduled for 2024, with Rheinmetall currently overhauling and preparing the Leopard 1 systems at its plants in Unterlüß and Kassel.
This follows Rheinmetall's prior support to Ukraine, having supplied a total of 80 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, most of which are already in use. The company is poised to deliver an additional 20 Marder IFVs upon receiving an order.
In late 2023 and early 2024, Ukraine is set to receive five Caracal airmobile-capable vehicles. Furthermore, the Group will supply Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks on behalf of the Dutch and Danish governments next year.
