Russia’s Rostec State Corporation has delivered the final batch of modernized 2S19M1 and 2S19M2 Msta-S self-propelled howitzers to the Russian Ministry of Defense this year.

As part of the 2023 state defense order, a significant number of 240-mm 2S4 “Tulpan” self-propelled mortars and 2S19M1 “Msta-S” self-propelled howitzers underwent a major overhaul and were subsequently dispatched to the troops.

The M1 version of the "Msta-S" is now equipped with an Automated Guidance and Fire Control System (ASUNO), allowing the combat vehicle to autonomously determine coordinates and calculate firing parameters from concealed firing positions. The M2 version features a modernized ASUNO with improved accuracy and the capability to display an electronic map of the area. Notably, the modernized Msta-S in the M2 version can engage in a simultaneous fire attack mode, enabling a single gun to target a location with five shells simultaneously before swiftly relocating.

Acknowledging the significance of artillery on the battlefield, Bekhan Ozdoev, the Industrial Director of the Complex of Conventional Weapons, Ammunition, and Special Chemicals of the Rostec State Corporation, emphasized the corporation's focus on enhancing artillery systems and increasing production. The 2S19M2 version, boasting a modernized loading system mechanism, achieves a targeted rate of fire of up to ten rounds per minute when using transportable ammunition, while the 2S19M1 achieves up to eight shots.

Furthermore, in line with the 2023 state defense order, the formidable 240-mm self-propelled mortars, 2S4 "Tulpan," have been deployed to the troops. These vehicles underwent an overhaul and were equipped with modern communications equipment. The enhanced mobility and automated deployment and loading processes at the firing position make the 2S4 "Tulpan" an effective weapon for combat operations in diverse conditions.
