As part of a nationwide upgrade program, over 700 Chinese frontier outposts have achieved a milestone by connecting to the national power grid, marking a substantial enhancement in the country's border defense capabilities.

The Logistic Support Department of the Central Military Commission collaborated with the National Energy Administration to execute power grid constructions for border defense troops. Utilizing the latest rural power grid overhaul and upgrade, this initiative has not only improved the living conditions of troops but has also facilitated the deployment of advanced, power-consuming weapons and equipment.

CCTV reported that by the end of 2023, over 700 border defense outposts were successfully connected to the national power grid. This development has allowed Chinese defense installations to establish an energy support system predominantly relying on electricity, supplemented by fuel, solar energy, and wind energy.

The integration into the national power grid is expected to significantly elevate the Chinese military's border management and control capabilities. The secure and reliable power supply to military equipment, coupled with cleaner and environment-friendly energy consumption, has improved the overall readiness of troops stationed along the challenging border areas.

In regions characterized by harsh conditions, including high altitude plateaus, rugged mountains, and remote islands, the costs of infrastructure construction are notably high. Analysts emphasize that addressing living conditions and infrastructure concerns is crucial for ensuring the combat readiness of troops in these challenging border environments.

A former Chinese military expert, who served in Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, highlighted the strategic advantages of a stable power supply through the national grid. With modern military activities relying on advanced equipment like radar systems, a stable and substantial energy source is deemed essential. Moreover, reducing reliance on fuel consumption by utilizing electricity from the national power grid contributes to the protection of the natural environment in these remote and pristine regions.
